Location: Champalimaud Centre for The Unknown Employer: Champalimaud Foundation Job Type: Full Time Position: Technical The Champalimaud Foundation (Fundação D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud), a private, non-profit research institution in Lisbon, Portugal, is looking for a Electronics Developer to join our team. Work Plan - Play an instrumental role in designing and developing embedded hardware systems for clinical and research application areas since the conception stage up to the final product; - Define requirements, design and develop hardware designs and embedded microcontroller firmware in close collaboration with cross-functional teams of engineers, clinicians and researchers; - Support Champalimaud Research users on the usage, troubleshooting and deployment of different types of devices and tools. Application closing date Until position is filled Expected position starting date December 1st, 2024 Skills/Qualifications Essential skills - Proven experience with design and development of embedded electronic hardware systems, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection; - Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Eagle, KiCad); - Experience with firmware development for microcontrollers or embedded application processors; - Strong programming skills in languages such as C, C++, or Python for embedded systems; - Analog design knowledge and spice simulators understanding; - Familiarity with communication protocols and embedded interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, PCIe, etc.); - Knowledge of hardware and firmware testing and debugging techniques; - Hands-on experience in using laboratory tools (examples: oscilloscope, multimeters, spectrum analyzer, voltage sources, etc.); - Team player, self-motivated, proactive, creative and willing to work in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment; - Good organizational, planning and project management skills, allowing for task prioritization and focus on efficacy; - Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientists, clinicians, and other engineers; - Excellent level of English. Desirable skills that will also be considered - Hands-on experience with wiring and SMD and TH components soldering; - Knowledge or experience working with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS); - Knowledge of high-speed design techniques; - Experience in the healthcare or medical device industry. Eligibility criteria - Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronics related areas; - 3-5 years proven experience in a similar role; - Business English proficiency level.
